Casa Pelé was built based on the memories of Dona Celeste Arantes do Nascimento and her brother Jorge, respectively Pelé's mother and uncle. As there was no photographic or descriptive record of it, retrieving this information was of vital importance for the success of the work. In the House, aging techniques were used that transported a recently built work to the year 1940, the birth date of Edson Arantes do Nascimento, King Pelé. The existing furniture and objects are faithful to the 1940s and were acquired through research carried out over three years in farms, thrift stores and antique shops. The radio playing period music, the wood burning stove and the low-voltage lamps convey a feeling of going back to the past. With approximately 15,000 visitors in just 8 months of existence, the House has already received visits from 28 countries, in addition to tourists from all regions of Brazil.

On March 23, 1994, Wayne Gretzky broke the record for the most career goals in NHL history. Playing for the LA Kings, he one-timed a cross-ice pass from Marty McSorely past Vancouver Canucks goaltender Kirk McLean.

Gretzky's childhood idol, Gordie Howe, held the NHL record of 801. Gretzky extended the record to 894 by the time he retired in 1999. However, if goals scored in the defunct World Hockey Association are included, Howe leads Gretzky 975 to 940.

This display at the Hockey Hall of Fame features 802 hockey pucks, as well as the puck, stick, gloves, helmet, and net used in setting that record.

Several of ice hockey's greatest players are honoured with a display case at the Hockey Hall of Fame. Orr was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 1979.

Orr is widely considered to be the best defenceman to ever play the sport. In a career shortened by knee injuries, he played just over nine seasons with the Boston Bruins (1966-1976) and 26 games over three seasons with the Chicago Black Hawks (1976-78). He is the only defenceman to lead the league in scoring, which he did twice. He won the NHL's Norris Trophy (best defenceman award) eight straight seasons from 1968-1975.

2002 Lucky Loonie

At the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, a one dollar Canadian coin was placed below the ice surface at the centre of the rink. Those coins are nicknamed "loonies", as they have a loon (bird) on one side of the coin.

The ice surface was being prepared by a Canadian crew, and Trent Evans came up with the idea of hiding the coin under the ice as a good luck charm to the Canadian men's and women's teams. The coin did the trick, as both teams won the gold medal. The tradition has carried on in international competition ever since.

The coin was presented to Wayne Gretzky after the gold medal was won. It now resides at the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Eddie Shore display

Several of ice hockey's greatest players are honoured with a display case at the Hockey Hall of Fame. Shore was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 1947.

Shore began his pro career by playing two seasons in the Western Canada Hockey League in Regina and Edmonton. When that league folded, he was dealt to Boston, where he played with the Bruins for over 13 seasons. He won the Hart Trophy (NHL's MVP honours) four times, the most ever by a defenceman. Shore's legacy is also defined by his sheer toughness. In his second season, he broke the record for the most penalty minutes in a season.

Near the end of his playing career, he purchased the Springfield (MA) Indians minor league team. He owned the team from 1939-76.

Retired engravings from the Stanley Cup

Each year, the names of the winning team members are engraved onto the NHL's Stanley Cup. Over time, the Cup's base grew in size and shape to accommodate more names. Eventually, it was determined that the Cup could not keep on growing, so it was decided to remove and retire some of the older engraved metal sections.

The bottom half of the modern Stanley Cup features five bands, with each designed to contain the names of 13 champion teams. Every thirteen years, the top (oldest) band is retired and a new blank band is added to the bottom. The next band will be retired in 2017.

Officially known as the 1892 Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup, the original Stanley Cup is on display inside of a vault at the Hockey Hall of Fame. In 1892, Lord Stanley of Preston decided to create a trophy to award to the top amateur ice hockey team in Canada. This silver bowl was purchased in London, England by one of Stanley's aides.

Each year, the winning teams were allowed to engrave their players' names onto the Cup. It was eventually mounted on a small base, which grew in size over the years to make room for more engraved winners. As of 1910, the Cup has only been awarded to pro teams. In 1927, the NHL adopted the trophy as its own.

The original Cup was retired in 1970 and replaced with the Cup still used today.

Turner Cup

The Turner Cup was awarded annually to the championship winning team of the International Hockey League (IHL) from 1945-2001. The IHL was a minor ice hockey league predominantly based in the Midwestern United States. The league began expanding in the 1980's with additional teams located in the western and southern US and two Canadian cities.

The trophy was named after Joe Turner, a young goaltender who was killed in World War II. Just before serving with the US Army, he played in his first and only NHL game with the Detroit Red Wings. The Cup currently resides alongside several other retired trophies in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

On June 5, 1999, the Houston Aeros defeated the Orlando Solar Bears in the seventh game of the International Hockey League's (IHL) Turner Cup Final. It was the first season championship for the minor league hockey franchise.

In this photo on display at the Hockey Hall of Fame, veteran defenceman Jim Paek is celebrating with the Turner Cup trophy. Paek was the first Korean-born person to play in the NHL. His pro career spanned from 1987-2003. While he spent most of his career in the minor leagues, he did play 217 NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins, LA Kings, and Ottawa Senators.

After his playing career ended, Paek became a minor league coach. He has recently accepted the job as director of South Korea's Olympic hockey program. The country hosts the 2018 games and has never qualified a team in Olympic ice hockey history.

The Houston Aeros existed from 1994-2013. The team moved to Des Moines in 2013 after they were unable to come to a lease agreement with Houston's Toyota Center.

Milwaukee Admirals jersey

Founded in 1970, the Milwaukee Admirals minor league hockey team has been the top farm club for the NHL's Nashville Predators since 1998. A jersey from the team's 2005-06 season is on display in the Predators display case at the Hockey Hall of Fame.

The jersey features a Milwaukee Brewers sponsorship patch on the right breast and a memorial patch on the left breast for the team's play-by-play radio announcer, Kyle Schultz, who suffered a fatal heart attack early in the season.

It is hard to tell from this photo, but it appears to be goaltender Brian Finley's #1 jersey. Finley was the backup to current Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne that season. The team lost in the Calder Cup Final series to Hershey in six games.

Widely considered to be the best player in the history of the sport, Gretzky rewrote the record books during his playing career. He played his rookie year in the World Hockey Association with Indianapolis and Edmonton. The next year, Edmonton was absorbed by the NHL after the WHA folded. He played nine more seasons with Edmonton before being traded to Los Angeles. He played almost eight seasons in LA and a short stint with St. Louis before finishing his career with three seasons with the New York Rangers, retiring in 1999. He finished his NHL career with 2,857 points, nearly 1,000 more than the second highest total (former teammate Mark Messier).

Howe played the majority of his career with the Detroit Red Wings from 1945-71. He came out of retirement to join the new World Hockey Association in 1973. By doing so, he had the opportunity to play with his sons Mark and Marty in Houston. After the WHA folded six years later, Howe played one final NHL season with the Hartford Whalers in 1979-80.

He has been the principal owner of the Penguins since 1999.

In 1975, several oldtimer race fans began working together to create a museum to preserve the history of the local auto racing scene. As the museum's collection grew over time, it has gained the reputation as one of the finest motorsports museums in the nation.

The museum showcases sprint and midget racing, stock cars, Indy cars, motorcycles, and drag racing. Visitors can access the museum's impressive research library. In 2012, the building expanded with a new wing.

The museum is located on a hill overlooking the restored Latimore Valley Fairgrounds and Racetrack. Several times each year, vintage race cars are driven on the oval racetrack, located east of the museum building. The museum is open Friday through Sunday during the race season, and on Fridays during the winter.

Basketball Hall of Fame (former location)

On June 30, 1985, the Basketball Hall of Fame opened in this building. It was the second location that housed the Hall of Fame. In 2002, it moved to a new building just to the south of here.

The original Hall of Fame was established in 1959 and was located at the nearby Springfield College.

Today, the heavily remodeled building is home to a fitness center and restaurant.

Wisconsin's first indoor hockey arena was built in 1933. Architect Max Hanisch used a wooden lamella truss design for the domed roof. Renovations were done in 1963-64. Four time Indy 500 winning driver Al Unser, Sr. and his wife Susan opened this motorsports museum in 2005. It not only showcases the story of the racing Unser family, but also features various exhibits from other forms of racing.

The museum was once an office building, which was purchased and renovated at a cost of $9 million. Unlike other automotive museums, the cars are not roped off, allowing visitors a closer view of the exhibits. Many displays feature an informative electronic kiosk.

Six different Unsers have raced in the Indy 500. Al, his brothers Jerry and Bobby, his son Al Jr., and his nephews Johnny and Robby.

The International Motorsports Hall of Fame is a Hall of Fame dedicated to enshrining those who have contributed the most to auto racing either as a driver, owner, developer or engineer. Although people of many nationalities have been inducted (including racing legends such as Fangio, Moss, Senna) the majority of inductees chosen by the American organization are American drivers who competed in domestic series (particularly NASCAR). The last driver to be inducted who was not an American national was Nigel Mansell in 2005.

It was founded in 1982 by Bill France, Sr., the founder of NASCAR, and is currently located in Talladega, Alabama, adjacent to Talladega Superspeedway.

2008 marked the 50th anniversary of the Giants' move to San Francisco. As part of the golden anniversary, in September 23, 2008, 43 Giants were inaugurated into the San Francisco Giants Wall of Fame -- a living tribute to their greatest players.

The Giants Wall of Fame recognizes retired players whose records stand highest among their teammates on the basis of longevity and achievements.

Those honored have played a minimum of nine seasons for the San Francisco Giants, or five seasons with at least one All-Star selection as a Giant.

Once a year or so, Donald E. Smith opens the doors of his impressive vintage race car collection to the public in order to raise money for charity.

Smith is a distant relative of the Hulman George family who purchased and rescued the Indianapolis Motor Speedway after World War II ended. Smith maintained a close relationship with the Speedway as the CEO of Terre Haute First National Bank and First Financial Corp. Before entering the banking business in 1969, he worked as a racing promoter and organizer in the 50's and 60's at AAA and USAC sprint car and midget racing events.

Part of his huge collection is kept within five buildings located here. A new museum recently opened by his grandsons in downtown Terre Haute features more of Don's collection.

Robert William Andrew "Bob" Feller (born November 3, 1918 in Van Meter, Iowa), nicknamed the "Heater from Van Meter", "Bullet Bob" and "Rapid Robert", is an American former Major League Baseball pitcher. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962, and is currently the longest tenured living Hall of Famer.


In 1995, the Bob Feller Museum opened in Van Meter, Iowa. It was designed by Feller's son Stephen, an architect. The land was donated by Brenton Banks. The museum is made up of two rooms which contain both Feller memorabilia and items from his personal collection.

The International Hockey Hall of Fame in Kingston was founded in 1943 by the NHL and the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association.

After not having a building to host the Hall of Fame by 1958, the NHL would withdraw their support and created the current Hall of Fame in Toronto.

The IHHF continued on without the NHL's help and moved into this building in 1965. They are proud to call themselves "The Original Hockey Hall of Fame".

Over 125 members of the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame are honored with plaques along the sidewalk east of the U.S. Cellular Arena. After the Hall of Fame was formed in 1951, a plaque for each member of the Hall was displayed inside of the Arena.

By the late 1990's, the Arena was running out of room for more plaques as the Hall's membership grew. In 2001, the plaques were moved to their new outdoor location where they could be viewed by everyone.

On September 29, 2008, the Museu do Futebol (Museum of Football) was inaugurated. It was created to tell the history of Brazilian football. The museum covers 6,900 square metres (1.7 acres), it was built at a cost of R$32.5 millions, and is located below the stadium's bleachers. The 680 workers hired to build the museum completed the construction in 13 months.

Founded on September 10, 1943 and incorporated as a non-profit charity by the National Hockey League and the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association. By 1958, NHL President Clarence Campbell announced that the NHL is withdrawing their support for the International Hockey Hall of Fame in Kingston to establish the NHL Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. Despite this major setback, the Board of Directors of the International Hockey Hall of Fame moved forward. In 1962, a grant was awarded by the City of Kingston for the construction of a new building. In 1965 the International Hockey Hall of Fame moved into their new building located on the Memorial Centre grounds in Kingston. In 1969, the NHL and the NHL Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto made unsuccessful overtures to obtain the IHHOF exhibits and the rights to the name “International Hockey Hall of Fame”.

The German Sports & Olympia Museum is situated in a former 19th century bonded warehouse in the Cologne Rheinauhafen (Rhineau Harbour). The Rhine terrace with its view over the Serverin Bridge and the Deutz Rhine Bank** is unique.

In approx. 2 000 m2 of exhibition and event space covering two floors, the widest aspects of national, international and Olympic sports are comprehensively displayed in a permanent and transitory exhibitions. Subdivision into various concisely labelled segments allows visitors to plunge into the fascinating worlds of sports.

The permanent exhibition on the first floor of the museum takes the visitor through more than 2500 years of sporting history up to the present day. Starting with the roots of modern sports, the journey through time takes us from ancient Greece via the German gymnastic movement and English sport to the great athletes of today, such as Boris Becker, Steffi Graf, Nils Schumann, Michael Schumacher etc.. More than 3000 exhibits, film documentaries and numerous media stations will ensure the tour through the history of sports will become a special experience. The visitor will have the opportunity to actively participate at numerous locations in the museum.
