After a year and a half of work, a monumental statue of Our Lady of Sorrows has been erected in Konotopie (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship). At 55.6 meters tall, the structure is the largest religious structure of its kind in Europe. The construction, financed by the billionaire couple Roman and Grażyna Karkosik, is estimated to have cost between 70 and 90 million złoty (USD 18.7 -24.1m). The dedication and grand opening are scheduled for August 15, 2026.

The maximum perceived intensity was X (Extreme) on the Mercalli intensity scale. The earthquake sequence, centered between the towns of Gibellina, Salaparuta and Poggioreale in the area of river Belice, killed at least 231 people, possibly more than 400, with between 632 and about 1,000 injured and left 100,000 homeless.

The Church of Christ the Worker and Our Lady of Lourdes, AKA Iglesia de Estación Atlántida, is a Roman Catholic parish church and a World Heritage Site in Estación Atlántida, Uruguay.

Inspired by Italian paleo-Christian and medieval religious architecture, the modernistic Church complex, inaugurated in 1960, represents a novel utilization of exposed and reinforced brick. Built on rectangular plan of 1 single hall, the church features distinctive undulating walls supporting a similarly undulating roof, composed of a sequence of reinforced brick Gaussian vaults developed by Eladio Dieste. The cylindrical bell-tower, built in openwork exposed brick masonry, rises from the ground to the right of the main church facade, while the underground baptistery is located on the left side of the parvis, accessible from a triangular prismatic entrance and illuminated via a central oculus. The Church provides an eminent example of the formal and spatial achievements of modern architecture in Latin America during the 2nd half of the 20th century, embodying the search for social equality with a spare use of resources.

The Milford Theatre was built on the site of the Plaza Theatre which was gutted by fire. The Milford Theatre was opened by Schine Circuit Inc. on June 4, 1948 with Red Skelton in “The Fuller Brush Man”. It was an ornate palace, yet had an intimate feel with its 1,675 seats located in orchestra and balcony levels. It closed in the early-1970’s. It has served as a church since then.

The Adelphi Theater likely opened in the 1920’s. Its original name was the “Cum-Bac”, probably a words play for Come Back. It was a two stories structure, with apartments in the second floor. It had 460 seats. The name was changed from Cum-Back to Adelphi in 1936 after renovations designed by the firm of Kaplan and Sprachman. The theater probably closed in 1956 and now is a Greek Orthodox church.

Cumberland was settled in 1837 and named "Poor Fork", for its location on a fork of the Cumberland River with relatively poor soil. It remained isolated until the coal mining boom of the 1900s when railroads connected it with surrounding towns. It was renamed "Cumberland" in 1926.

Battle Abbey is a partially ruined Benedictine abbey in Battle, East Sussex, England. The abbey was built on the site of the Battle of Hastings and dedicated to St Martin of Tours. It is a Scheduled Monument.

The Grade I listed site is now operated by English Heritage as 1066 Battle of Hastings, Abbey and Battlefield, which includes the abbey buildings and ruins, a visitor centre with a film and exhibition about the battle, audio tours of the battlefield site, and the monks' gatehouse with recovered artefacts. The visitor centre includes a children's discovery room and a café, and there is an outdoor-themed playground.

St. John's Lutheran Church of Richland County was built in 1883 by the faith community originally known as the South Wild Rice Lutheran Congregation, whose constitution was adopted on 12/27/1872. In 1882, the name of the faith community was changed to St. John's as construction of the building began. This wood-frame church still stands on its original single course, dry-laid, uncut fieldstone foundation, and is E of the Wild Rice River in the Red River Valley near Galchutt, ND.

Listed on the NRHP on 10/22/1982.

Cappella degli Scrovegni, AKA the Arena Chapel, is a small church adjacent to the Augustinian monastery, the Monastero degli Eremitani in Padua, Veneto. The chapel and monastery are now part of the Musei Civici di Padova.

The chapel contains a fresco cycle by Giotto, completed circa 1305 and an important masterpiece of Western art. In 2021, the chapel was designated part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of 1300s fresco cycles composed of eight historical buildings in Padua's city center. The Scrovegni Chapel contains the most important frescoes that marked the beginning of a revolution in mural painting and influenced fresco technique, style, and content for a century.

During the 15th century, the abbey guesthouse was developed into a royal residence, and after the Scottish Reformation the Palace of Holyroodhouse was expanded further. The abbey church was used as a parish church until the 17th century, and has been ruined since the 18th century. The remaining walls of the abbey lie adjacent to the palace. I wonder how it would fall into ruin while the House of Holyrood still stands?

Vicars' Close is a dead end street in Wells, Somerset. It is reportedly Europe's oldest residential street with the original buildings still intact. It consists of 27 residences (originally 44), built for Bishop Ralph of Shrewsbury, a chapel and library at the north end, and a hall at the south end, over an arched gate. It is connected at its southern end to Wells Cathedral by a walkway.

The Holy Dexter refers to Stephen I (Szent István király) of Hungary's right hand. Stephen I was the last Grand Prince of the Hungarians and the first member of his family to become a devout Christian. He is considered the founder of the Christian Kingdom of Hungary. Stephen died in 1038 and his canonization began in the 1080s.

Apparently, a cult emerged around Stephen and later his relic of a right hand.

The Holy Dexter has resided at St. Stephen's Basilica since 1950.

The State Theater

The Loews State Theater was opened in 1921 to both vaudeville and film. It was equipped with a Moeller 3 Manual/18 Ranks theater organ. The theater had two entrances, one on S. Broadway, the other on W. 8th Street and the theater is surrounded by a 12 story office building - the largest brick-clad building in Los Angeles. Inside the auditorium the decorative style combines Classical, Medieval and traditional Spanish styles. Three outstanding features are a lavish ceiling decorated in a Spanish Rococo style, a seated Buddha occupying a niche above the proscenium arch and the splendid futuristic painting on the asbestos safety curtain which depicts a composition of orange and gold planets and comets floating around onion-domed towers on a brilliant blue background. During the 1990’s the State Theater was used for location shoots, where Bette Midler’s version of “Gypsy” had a scene filmed here. Also the Tina Turner based biopic “What’s Love Got To Do With It” and for “Wild Bill” when it stood in for a 5 second shot as an 1885 New York theater. The State Theater closed as a movie theater in 1997. In 1998 it was leased by the Brazilian church, Universal Church of the Kingdom of God when they moved out of their previous home at the Million Dollar Theater.

Thame’s story is the story of England. It began in Saxon times with a settlement down by the ‘dark flowing’ river from which the town takes its name. It was probably founded in 635 AD as the administrative centre of the endowed lands of the Bishop of Dorchester. After the Norman Conquest, the diocese moved to Lincoln and a Royal Charter was granted in 1215 for the market which is still held every Tuesday.

According to the churchwarden’s accounts, the north transept was built in 1442 and since the windows in the south transept are of similar style, it was probably built at the same time. The south transept was known as St Christopher’s Chapel and houses two table tombs belonging to the Quartermain family. One of these, the tomb of Richard Quartermain, his wife Sybil and their godson Richard Fowler, dates from 1477 and is notable for the armour depicted on its brasses. The stalls with linenfold panelling in the chancel were bought from Thame Abbey in 1540.

St Mary’s Church was begun in the 13th century at the instigation of the Bishop of Lincoln, Robert Grossteste. Vestiges of the original building can still be seen, such as the pillars and arches in the nave and the aisle windows which date from the early 14th century. The building was substantially restored in the years between 1889 and 1897 by the architect J.O. Scott.

There are several interesting tombs within the chancel. The most prominent tomb is that of Lord Williams and his wife Elizabeth. Lord Williams served under both Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth 1, becoming a man of great influence and wealth. He founded the town’s secondary school which still bears his name. Also in the chancel is the tomb of Sir John Clerke, who was knighted by Henry VIII. Robin Gibb of the Bee Gee's is planted in the cemetery.
