It's the largest monument in Halebidu, a town in the state of Karnatak, and the former capital of the Hoysala Empire. The temple was built on the banks of a large manmade lake, and sponsored by King Vishnuvardhana of the Hoysala Empire. Its construction started around 1121 CE and was complete in 1160.
During the early 1300s, Halebidu was twice sacked and plundered by the Muslim armies of the Delhi Sultanate from northern India, and the temple and the capital fell into a state of ruin and neglect.
The Hoysaleswara temple is a Shaiva monument, yet reverentially includes many themes from Vaishnavism and Shaktism tradition of Hinduism, as well as images from Jainism.
It was commissioned by King Vishnuvardhana in 1117 CE, on the banks of the Yagachi River in Belur, an early Hoysala Empire capital. The temple was built over 3 generations and took 103 years to finish. It was repeatedly damaged and plundered during wars, rebuilt, and repaired over its history.

Chennakesava ("handsome Kesava") is a form of the Hindu god Vishnu. The temple is dedicated to Vishnu and has been an active Hindu temple since its inception. It's reverentially described in medieval Hindu texts, and remains an important pilgrimage site in Vaishnavism. The temple is remarkable for its architecture, sculptures, reliefs, friezes as well its iconography, inscriptions and history. The temple artwork depicts scenes of life in the 1100s, dancers and musicians, as well as a pictorial narration of Hindu texts such as the Ramayana, the Mahabharata and the Puranas through numerous friezes. The temple is a testimony to the artistic, cultural, and theological perspectives in 12th-century South India and the Hoysala Empire.
The Belur temple complex, along with the nearby Hoysaleswara Temple at Halebidu and the Keshava Temple at Somanathapura, was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2023 as part of the Sacred Ensembles of the Hoysalas.

"vihāra of the gods") (Khmer: ប្រាសាទព្រះវិហារ Prasat Preah Vihear) is an ancient edifice built by the Khmer Empire as a Hindu temple on top of a 525-m cliff in the Dângrêk Mountains, Cambodia. Over time, it became a Buddhist temple.

As a key edifice of the empire's spiritual life, Preah Vihear was supported and modified by successive kings and bears elements of several architectural styles. It's unusual among Khmer temples in being constructed along a long N–S axis, rather than having the conventional rectangular plan with orientation toward the E. The temple gives its name to the surrounding Preah Vihear province.

In 1962, after a lengthy dispute between Cambodia and Thailand over ownership, the International Court of Justice ruled that the temple is in Cambodia. In 2008, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This prompted an escalation in the dispute between the 2 nations over the temple, which was settled in favor of Cambodia by another ICJ ruling in 2013.

It is located in the north of Mumbai in an area called Gorai and is built on donated land on a peninsula between Gorai creek and the Arabian Sea. The Global Vipassana Pagoda is built out of gratitude to the Buddha, his teaching and the community of monks practicing his teaching. Its traditional Burmese design is an expression of gratitude towards the country of Myanmar for preserving the practice of Vipassana. The shape of the pagoda is a copy of the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, Myanmar. It is being built combining ancient Indian and modern technology to enable it to last for a thousand years.

The pagoda is to serve as a monument of peace and harmony. This monument was inaugurated by Pratibha Patil, the President of India on February 8, 2009.
