Opened in June, 1950. Styled with an "Old West" theme and rustic landscaping, the 300 car capacity Lariat Drive-In was a comfortable setting in which to view a double feature, short subject, and color cartoon. It was closed in 1984. Today a church building occupies this property, though from the satellite view, you can barely make out the "footprint" of the old drive-in.

Opened in 1948 with a capacity for 583 cars and seating for 320 walk-in patrons. It was a great classic throwback complete with playground, swings and merry-go-round. Sadly the concession building of the theater was destroyed by a fire on November 27, 2015, putting the theater out of business. The screen was taken down in July 2024.

The Fort Apache Drive-In

The Fort Apache Drive-In was located in Bisbee, Arizona on the border with Mexico and the United States. It parked 400 cars and was owned by Tri-Delta Amusement Company. The Fort Apache Drive-In opened in 1952 and operated into the 1980’s. The locations of the screen and projection building are still visible.

Bisbee was founded as a copper, gold, and silver mining town in 1880, and named in honor of Judge DeWitt Bisbee, one of the financial backers of the adjacent Copper Queen Mine. The town was the site of the Bisbee Riot in 1919. In 1929, the county seat was moved from Tombstone to Bisbee, where it remains.

The 99 W Drive-in opened in 1953, and is a single screen drive-in from its opening day. The drive-in has a capacity for 275 cars. It is operated by the Francis Family, who operated the Historic Cameo Theater in the town center.

Opened as the Circle S Drive-In in November 1950. It went through a few name changes and finally settled on Last Drive-In Picture Show. The drive-in is open seven days a week playing a double bill. It is very much a family oriented venue as it does not show any R rated films. Audio is provided on FM radio.

Rock 'N' Roll Drive-In

The Montgomery Drive-In opened April 10, 1955, it was owned and operated by Bernice Montgomery and later on his son Morris Montgomery. On September 22, 1965, the original wooden screen tower which was made from redwood shipped from Oregon was blown over. The new screen tower was made of concrete panels cast locally and supported by heavy steel beams. The theater finally closed in October 1971. On June 27, 1980, Morris’ son and his mother reopened the Montgomery Drive-In. It was only open on the weekends. It was in operation until October 9, 1981, when it closed again. It reopened in October 2020 as the Rock ‘N’ Roll Drive-In.

Opened on May 24, 1951 with Rod Cameron in “Oh! Susannah” as the Modernaire Drive-In with a capacity of 700 cars. On June 19, 1952 it was renamed Admiral Drive-In. It was originally a single screen but a second screen was added in May 1955 increasing the car capacity to 1,350. In 1966 it was taken over by General Cinema. Featured in the movie, "The Outsiders".

The White River Drive-In was located in Batesville, Arkansas, in the Northern part of the State. It was opened on July of 1950 with John Payne in “El Paso” and held 230 cars. It was closed at the end of the 1985 season. The screen was demolished in the early-1990’s, but in 2024 the projection booth still stands and the remainder of the drive-in is overgrown with trees and bushes.

Pickwick Drive-In opened in May, 1949. It could accommodate 781 cars, and the screen was 50 feet wide. It was the site of the 1974 world premiere of Mel Brooks’s Blazing Saddles. Guests entered on horses. The drive-in scenes in Grease were filmed here in 1977. The drive-in was closed on September 10, 1989, and torn down in October 1989.

This was the old parking lot of an old Ster Kinekor Drive-in. In the days when the drive-in was still in operation, a flea market operated in the parking lot on Sundays. All food was sold by the Drive in, at their cafeteria.

Ster Kinekor eventually sold the Drive-in to the flea market operators and the market was properly established.

This cultural icon was destined to be an area of overgrown trees, briars, worn traces of the old drive-in and even a junkyard until Richard and Lisa Boaz purchased the property and opened the Big Mo in March 1999. The theatre had been closed since 1986. One of three remaining drive-in movie theatres in South Carolina, The Big Mo has a play area for the kids and trivia contests during intermission. The drive-in is open Friday through Sunday for familes and couples to come have a "reel" good time. The concession stand features hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos, sno kones, ice cream, boiled p-nuts, etc.

During the boom years just about every Texas town
had an outdoor picture show (or not far to go for one)
and most of the bigger cities could claim several. For
Turkey, Texas, it was the Midway, a modest Drive-in
built in 1955 with a capacity for 200 cars - but ample
enough for this rural community of half a thousand
people. The screen at the Midway had been lit for
32 seasons before it went dark, and remained dark
another 13 years before being acquired and restored
by a local schoolteacher (let that be a lesson to you!).
The reopening of the Midway in May of 2000 was the
first of two resurrections that occured in Texas during
Season 2K (the second one was Abilene's T&C Drive-in).
The screen is easy to spot from the road - painted with
a huge American flag motif on the back. On front It's lit
with a single feature on weekend nites, April - October.

The 271 Drive In theater was opened August 24th, 1948 by Henry, Wesley, Elmer and Frances Bell. It had a 60x50 tower, 38x48 screen and was the first drive in theater in Paris. The 271 was closed and abandoned in 1983, but was still standing in 2002.

Wichita once had as many Drive-in theatres as are
currently operating throughout the entire state of
Kansas. There is some compensation and solace,
by the fact that Wichita's sole remaining outdoor
picture show is an exemplary Drive-in experience.
It is also the largest of the state's Drive-in theatres,
with two screens and a capacity for up to 1300 cars.
The Starlite's twins are lit with double features, and
on Friday and Saturday nites, a bonus triple feature, for
one admission price. Audio is provided with a local FM
radio broadcast, as well as traditional pole speakers.
