The Circle Theater

The Circle Theater opened in 1928 and operated more or less continuously until 1991. In the late 1980s, the theater reopened as Cine Centro with a focus on Hispanic-language films. By 1991 when it close permanently, it had been showing adult entertainment. The building was featured in the opening scene of the 1983 Francis Ford Coppola film The Outsiders, based on the S.E. Hinton book The Outsiders.

The Circle Theater was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003, and was acquired by the Circle Cinema Foundation, who also purchased two adjacent storefronts to the south of the theater. Those renovated spaces now adjoin the original lobby space and house a gathering/reception area, a display of movie posters, and an art gallery for local artists to exhibit their work. In 2013, the main auditorium of the original theater was renovated, and today the Circle Cinema boasts four screens.

Loch Tay is a freshwater loch in the central highlands of Scotland, in the Perth and Kinross and Stirling council areas, the largest body of fresh water in Perth and Kinross. The watershed of Loch Tay traditionally formed the historic province of Breadalbane. The loch is a popular spot for salmon fishing, and the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail filmed the famous scene with the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog at Tomnadashan Mine on the east bank of the loch.

The State Theater

The Loews State Theater was opened in 1921 to both vaudeville and film. It was equipped with a Moeller 3 Manual/18 Ranks theater organ. The theater had two entrances, one on S. Broadway, the other on W. 8th Street and the theater is surrounded by a 12 story office building - the largest brick-clad building in Los Angeles. Inside the auditorium the decorative style combines Classical, Medieval and traditional Spanish styles. Three outstanding features are a lavish ceiling decorated in a Spanish Rococo style, a seated Buddha occupying a niche above the proscenium arch and the splendid futuristic painting on the asbestos safety curtain which depicts a composition of orange and gold planets and comets floating around onion-domed towers on a brilliant blue background. During the 1990’s the State Theater was used for location shoots, where Bette Midler’s version of “Gypsy” had a scene filmed here. Also the Tina Turner based biopic “What’s Love Got To Do With It” and for “Wild Bill” when it stood in for a 5 second shot as an 1885 New York theater. The State Theater closed as a movie theater in 1997. In 1998 it was leased by the Brazilian church, Universal Church of the Kingdom of God when they moved out of their previous home at the Million Dollar Theater.

'Shawshank State Prison'

The old Mansfield Reformatory, which gained fame when it served as Shawshank State Prison in the 1994 movie The Shawshank Redemption starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman.

The facility was built between 1886 and 1910. The original architect for the design was Levi T Scofield from Cleveland, although the creation and construction of the entire building was entrusted to F F Schnitzer, whose name also appears on the cornerstone, and is recorded as Superintendent in documents found in the cornerstone. Schnitzer was presented with a silver double inkwell by the governor of the state in a lavish ceremony to thank him for his services. Although the architecture is often described as Germanic castle architecture, it is actually mostly Romanesque Revival. The Reformatory remained in full operation until 1972 once the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility was opened. The facility was completely closed down in 1990.

Forty five years ago, Friday, June 13, 1980, a Fairview housewife killed a Wylie middle school teacher in such a horrific way that some will never forget.

Candace Montgomery, 30, wielded a 3-foot-long ax she found in the garage at the home of Betty and Allan Gore on 410 Dogwood Drive in Wylie, striking Betty 41 times while daughter Bethany slept in her crib in another room.

It was bloody and it was brutal, and it put the small town of 3,700 on the map as being home to one of the most heinous crimes in Collin County.

In the 1990 CBS TV movie A Killing in a Small Town, based on the Montgomery case but with names changed, Barbara Hershey won the Emmy award and the Golden Globe award portraying the lead character, named Cathy Morrison.

Jessica Biel portrays Montgomery in the Hulu series Candy, which debuted in May 2022.

Montgomery was portrayed by Elizabeth Olsen in the Max series Love & Death, which debuted in April 2023.

Villa Necchi Campiglio is a historic residence and museum located at via Mozart, 14, Milan. It was built between 1932 and 1935 as an independent single-family house designed by Piero Portaluppi. The owners were prominent members of the Lombard industrial "bourgeoisie", and their lifestyle is reflected in the building, designed and constructed without budget constraints. Surrounded by a large private garden with a tennis court and swimming pool, this was the second swimming pool ever to be built in Milan after the municipal one, and the first to be built on private land. The villa was used in the movie, I Am Love.

From the Godfather... Filming for this scene took place at the long decommissioned Mitchel Air Force Base, which was in operation from 1917 to June 25th, 1961. Since it was decommissioned, chunks of the runways have given way to new development. Filming the scene where Sonny gets rubbed out took place on the only remaining portion of the runway. For the film, they built fake tollbooths to create the location as being on the Long Beach causeway.At the Long Beach Causeway toll plaza, a rival Mafia assassin trap Sonny and shoot him to death.

Invalidovna

Invalidovna was built in 1731–1737 as a dormitory for war invalids (veterans) by Kilian Ignac Dientzenhofer. Its model was Les Invalides, a building for veterans inaugurated in Paris in 1679.

Only a ninth of the original design was ever completed. At most, about 1,200 inmates lived there. In 1935, all inhabitants moved to another "invalidovna", at Hořice, and the building was used by the Czech army. After this, it was used as an army archive. The building was damaged by a large flood in 2002, and most of the archive materials were destroyed. The building currently awaits reconstruction. One possible future use is as an open space for culture and social life.

The Invalidovna complex has served as a filming location for several notable movies, including the 1984 American drama film Amadeus directed by Miloš Forman, and Guillermo del Toro's 2004 film Hellboy. In 2023, Robert Eggers chose Invalidovna as one of the filming locations for his adaptation of Nosferatu, a modern interpretation of the classic vampire tale.

Pernštejn Castle is a castle in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic. It lies on a rock above the village of Nedvědice and the rivers Svratka and Nedvědička, about 40 kilometres (25 mi) northwest of Brno. Pernštejn came to be known as the marble castle because of the marble-like stone used to frame the doors and windows.

It was founded by the Lords of Medlov probably between 1270 and 1285. The family branch seated at the castle and adopted the then fashionable name Pernštejn (written also Pernstein), which is the Czech version probably derived of the German name, Bärenstein – the "Bear Rock". Its history is closely connected to the Pernštejn family and their descendants. It has kept its intact appearance in the Gothic and Renaissance form as it was finished in the first half of the 16th century by the Pernštejns, then the richest and most powerful lordly family of the Bohemian kingdom. Pernštejn is one of the best preserved castles in Czech Republic.

Since 1958, it has been protected as a cultural monuments. The castle is privately owned. Since 2018 it's been managed by group of volunteers.

This is a protected area in Isiolo County in north Kenya, east of the Samburu and Buffalo Springs national reserves. Together, the 3 reserves form a large protected area.

The Shaba reserve has dramatic scenery including riverside forests, scattered woodlands, and dry grasslands dominated by the Shaba Hill volcano. The wildlife relies on waterholes and marshes scattered throughout the reserve. Shaba is home to the endangered Grevy's zebra and the rare Williams's lark. Shaba was the setting for the book and film "Born Free", for the film "Out of Africa" and for the reality show "Survivor: Africa".
