She was built in 1975 at Wärtsilä Turku Shipyard in Turku, Finland as the MS Azerbaydzhan for the Soviet Union-based Black Sea Shipping Company. She had also sailed under the names MS Arkadia and MS Island Holiday. In 2020, it was planned to scrap her in Coatzacoalcos. However, she grounded in Alvarado after dragging anchor in a storm.
As the number of cats quickly outgrew her house, she bought an old sailing barge in 1968, creating the first floating cat shelter in Amsterdam. The boat soon became a well‑known refuge, even operating a second vessel briefly in 1971. In 1979, the original barge was replaced by a purpose‑built shelter boat called De Ark, later renovated in 2002. The foundation Stichting De Poezenboot was formally established in 1987, securing its long‑term future. Today, it remains a beloved floating sanctuary on the Singel, caring for stray and abandoned cats and welcoming visitors from around the world.

Originally steam-powered, it was built for the Reading Railroad. Re-powered with a 1600hp Fairbanks-Morse engine, the ferry was acquired by the State of Virginia in 1950. Captain Tom Palmer, a Pierce County Ferry captain, purchased the ferry in 1984, and hoped it would supplement his current 30-car ferry. From what I can gather, he and his brother brought Ocean City from the East Coast to Puget Sound via the Panama canal, a 7,000 mile, 54-day trip. Word has it the ferry service was taken over by Pierce County, and the Ocean City never got to help out.
In April 2022, M/Y Amadea was seized by Fiji police at Lautoka Port as Fijian high court granted a restraining order to Fiji Police to restrain it for being allegedly linked with Kerimov. In May 2022, Fiji's High Court ruled that US authorities can seize the yacht. A possible Fabergé egg was found aboard the yacht. In February 2024, US authorities revealed their desire to auction the yacht due to its "excessive" upkeep. The yacht reportedly costs $7 million a year to maintain and monthly costs include $360,000 to pay the crew, $165,000 on maintenance and other expenses, and $75,000 on fuel. The US Government is looking to auction the yacht off for $365M, per August 2025 reporting.
