The Pasatiempo residential golf club development was planned in the late 1920s by developer Marion Hollins with the goal of creating a setting for elegant country living that would rival Pebble Beach. Hollins herself believed Pasatiempo was superior, as it was located on the sunny side of Monterey Bay. Situated on redwood- and oak-studded hills above Santa Cruz, the development boasts spectacular views of the bay and a highly impressive design pedigree. - The Olmsted Brothers (successors to Frederick Law Olmsted) created the master plan. - The golf course was laid out by the renowned Scottish golf architect Alister MacKenzie. - Clarence Tantau and William W. Wurster designed the first houses and the club structures. - Thomas D. Church was the landscape architect for the original gardens.
