The 1801 Richard Douglass House was built by Revolutionary War Veteran Captain Richard Douglass (1746-1828) who served throughout the war from first alarm at Lexington to the New York Campaign and through the end of the war. Richard´s son Alexander was a whaling master and brought in one of the largest cargos of whale oil ever recorded. Alexander also was whaling master on the Dauphin the ship that rescued the crew of the Whaleship Essex (Moby Dick).
The house was completely restored in 2008 by current owner E. Andriopoulos, CEO and Founder of Visiple Video Conferencing. The house and is one of the last examples of late 18th/early 19th c. homes in the Gambrel Style in New London. Facebook page dedicated to the history.
