The M23 race car is seen on display at the McLaren Technology Centre. It was driven to the team's first World Championship by Brazilian Emerson Fittipaldi.

The car was sponsored by Texaco and Marlboro, but the Marlboro brand name has been removed from all of the cars in this museum.

Fittipaldi scored three victories in 1974 (Brazil, Belgium, Canada) to narrowly defeat Clay Regazzoni in the drivers season points standings. It was Fittipaldi's second championship following a 1972 title with Lotus.

After leaving Formula One in 1980, he competed in IndyCar from 1984-96, winning the 1989 and 1993 Indy 500's and the 1989 IndyCar season title.
