On January 21, 1979, the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Dallas Cowboys 35-31 to win Super Bowl XIII. It was Pittsburgh's third Super Bowl win in five seasons. They would win again in 1980 to make it four out of six.

This team featured future Hall of Fame inductees Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, John Stallworth, Lynn Swann, Mike Webster, Joe Greene, Jack Ham, Jack Lambert, and Mel Blount.
