The Hyundai Scoupe was introduced in 1988 as Hyundai's first sports car, in which it was based on the Excel subcompact. A predecessor to the Tiburon, it offered a turbocharged verson, yet it remains largely forgotten today. Its name is a portmanteau of "Sports coupe".
