Francis Newlands was a Senator and United States Representative from the State of Nevada.

Newlands built this home between 1891 and 1894 and is believed to be one of the first four homes built in Chevy Chase.

In 1909 the home was purchased by Washington, D.C. businessmen and brothers William S. Corby and Charles Corby, founders of founded the Corby Baking Company. They named the home "Ishpiming", coming from the Chippewa Indian word for "High Ground".

The home is currently owned by J.J. Cafaro, an Ohio based commercial property developer who, in 2001, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to bribe then-U.S. Rep. James Traficant.
