American rapper, actor, and entrepreneur Dr. Dre’s house is an 18,000-square-foot, 5-bedroom, 9-bathroom country French chateau on 4 acres in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA. The house includes a wine cellar, gym, pool, moat, and a six-car garage. Construction on the house began in 2008 after NFL quarterback Tom Brady and his wife, model Gisele Bundchen purchased the land for $11.75 million. After the house was built, they sold it to Dr. Dre for $40 million in 2014. Shortly after buying the mansion, Dre began construction on a 10,000-square-foot music studio beneath the house.

Dr. Dre has owned several expensive properties in the Los Angeles area. He has previously purchased a Woodland Hills mansion for $2.4 million, which he sold in 2019 for $4.5 million. He owned a mansion in Hollywood Hills from 2001-2013, which he bought for $15.4 million and sold for $32.5 million. In 2018, he purchased a mansion in Calabasas for $4.9 million and in 2019 he bought a $2.25-million Pacific Palisades home. His real estate investments carry a total value of at least $80 million.

Dr. Dre’s net worth is $780 million. Though he has earned tens of millions through his music and production pursuits, a vast majority of his wealth came from the sale of his company Beats by Dre, which was purchased by Apple in 2014 for $3 billion. Dre owned 25% of the company at the time, netting a post-tax $500 million in one transaction.

Dr. Dre was born in South Central Los Angeles, growing up in the Compton neighborhood. He was a member of seminal rap group N.W.A. whose debut album “Straight Outta Compton” was released in 1988 and became a double platinum record. In 1991, Dre and Suge Knight co-founded Death Row Records and released his 1992 solo debut “The Chronic”, which sold 6 million copies and reached number 3 on the Billboard 200. Dre and Jimmy Iovine launched Beats by Dr. Dre headphones in 2008, eventually adding a music-streaming service, Beats Music.

Dr. Dre has six children (one deceased) and has been married once. His wife Nicole Young filed for divorce in June 2020.
