The Abbey of Regina Laudis, founded in 1947, is a house of contemplative Benedictine nuns.

Early in the production process of the 1992 film Sister Act, Bette Midler was attached to star, prior to Whoopi Goldberg. Midler stayed at the Abbey for research.

The Prioress of the abbey, Mother Dolores Hart, was an actress and singer before joining the order. She is, to this date, the only nun to be a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. With this membership, Mother Hart votes on Academy Awards.
