Air New Zealand #901 Crash


McMurdo Station, Antarctica (AQ)
On 28 November 1979; a DC-10-30 departed Auckland, NZ for an overflight sightseeing trip to Antartica, returning the same day.

The aircraft crashed into Mt. Erebus. All 237 passengers and 10 crew perished. The accident is referred to the Mt. Erebus Disaster.

A change of a flight plan waypoint and flying below established altitude resulted in the crash.
