The design of the Series 3 Alfa Romeo Spider was first shown in 1982 and went into production the following year. A "Graduate" model, named in tribute of the 1967 film "The Graduate", in which a Spider driven by Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman), was also available as an entry-level model, alongside a Veloce and a Quadrifoglio trim.
