Alt-Erlaa is one of the largest housing complexes in Austria. Built between 1973 and 1985, it consists of ~ 3,200 apartments and houses ~ 9,000 residents. It contains shopping centres, medical centres, schools, kindergartens, playgrounds, parks, tennis courts, swimming pools, public administrative institutions etc. and has been described as a "city within the city".
