The Alternate seat North Rhine-Westphalia was a secret nuclear bunker in Urft, Kreis Euskirchen. In a nuclear war the Prime Minister and 200 experts took protection of government business.

The planning started in 1962. The complex is about 1,000 square meters, it measures 35 x 29 x 16.2 meters. The entrance is camouflaged in a civilian double garage.

In 1993 the bunker was closed and sold to private owners. A tour is available by appointment. The former alternative seat of the federal government is located approximately 50 miles east in the neighboring district of Ahrweiler.
