Antelope Peak, California, was first used as a lookout in the early 1900s and a two-story structure was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1933. The current tower - a unique design - was built in 1975 as a joint project between NASA, the Department of Energy and the U.S. Forest Service. Still in active use, it has the distinction of being the first lookout in the U.S. to be fully equipped with solar power.
