Located in Lesvos are the remains of a Roman aqueduct. The aqueduct dates back to the 2nd century -3rd century AD and it was used to transport water from the springs of Olympus Mountain to the city of Mytilini. The aqueduct was 26 km in length. It was constructed under the command of Hadrian.
Most of the aqueduct has been demolished. Some remnants of the aqueduct can be seen across the island. Most of these sections are in bad condition, but the best-preserved section is in the area of Moria. This section is 170 m in length and includes seventeen arches.
