Intended to be a semi-offroad offering introduced in 1999, the A6-based allroad quattro C5 was essentially a lifted Avant station wagon. An adjustible air suspension system allowed the crossover/wagon to have higher ground clearance than the standard A6. Also, a low-range mode was available, in which when both systems are used together, this allowed it to become the only car-based SUV (crossover) at the time to complete an official Land Rover test course. Engine options included a twin-turbo 2.7 liter V6 producing 247 horsepower and a 177 horsepower 2.5 liter TDI, in which a 4.2 V8 and a 1.9 TDI inline 4 joined the lineup in 2003 and 2004 respectively. Once ending production in July 2005, it wasn't until the 2013 model year in which an allroad-badged vehicle would return to the U.S. market, in which it was instead based on the A4. While A6-based allroads continued production in Europe, the reason why it has been discontinued in America is unknown, but I believe that it is related to the scenario in which station wagons sell poorly compared to SUVs, which explains Audi discontinuing the Avant wagons to Americans.
