Balmoral Castle is a large Royal Family estate in the Aberdeenshire area. The estate is best known for its association with Queen Victoria and Prince Albert who purchased the estate in 1848 and made drastic changes. The structure you see today was completed in 1857 by William Smith. After the death of Prince Albert, Victoria stayed in the castle for much longer periods of time. During this time the Queen began a strong friendship with her ghillie servent, John Brown until his death in 1883.
