Basilica de la Macarena

Basilica de la Macarena

Seville, Spain (ES)
The Basilica de la Macarena was built in the 1940s to contain the adored Virgin de la Esperanza Macarena. Now standing above the main altar of the church, the sculpture is thought to have been created in the mid 17th Century by Maria Luisa Roldan. The Virgin is the patron saint of bullfighters, and her statue is carried on a decorated float to the cathedral on Good Friday.
