The Battle of Culloden took place on April 16, 1746 between the Scottish Jacobites who favored the return of the Catholic Stuart line to the English throne and the Loyalist who fought for the Protestant Hanover line of the British.
The Scots lost the battle and some 1,500 to 2,000 men while the victorious English lost only about 200-400 men.
The Battle of Culloden Memorial cairn was erected in 1881.
