Baughman Mountain Lookout was put into service by the Douglas Forest Protective Association in 1925. The first tower was a crow's nest atop a Douglas-fir tree. In 1934 a timber trestle type tower with a cabin was constructed. In 1953, a treated timber tower was built. In 1979, the present steel tower with a cabin and catwalk was assembled from the recycled Shivigny Mountain lookout, which was dismantled in the fall 1978. The lookout is in active service.
