The Sumela Monastery (Μονή Παναγίας Σουμελά) or (Sümela Manastırı) is a Greek Orthodox monastery turned museum. The site is nestled within a rock ledge at an elevation of 1,200 meters (3,900 feet). within the Pontic Mountains of northeast Türkiye. The founding of the monastery dates back to around AD 386 and it closed after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire in 1923.
