This roundabout is NOT the Weatherford Traffic circle.

It is properly called the Benbrook Traffic Circle.

Not one of the roads that enters or leaves this circle goes to Weatherford, TX.

The OLD Weatherford Traffic Circle was north of this roundabout by about 1/2 mile at the intersection of US Highway 80 (now US 580; which is part of the original Bankhead Highway) and Texas State Highway 183.

The Weatherford and Benbrook Traffic circles permitted unimpeded traffic flow on Texas 183 from IH-30 to IH-20. Until the southwest portion of IH-820, the Jim Wright Freeway, was built and completed in 1982/1983, IH-20 followed IH-30 from the Aledo Junction to the interchange with Texas 183. IH-20 then followed Texas 183 through both circles to the area around the Hulen Mall. At that point, Texas 183 terminated and IH-20 followed its current route. It wasn't until 1984 that the portion of I-20 from the Aledo Junction to Benbrook was completed.

The only remnant of the OLD Weatherford Circle was in the gravel parking lot of Rancher Bill's Bar-Be-Que on the north-west corner of the intersection at US 80 and Texas 183. The old outside concrete curbing of the circle was still present in the gravel until Rancher Bill's was closed in 1995 and the land sold to pay the Massey Family's Tax bill. Another weird piece of trivia is the OLD business named "Circle Auto Parts" which was on the circle in the location of the current Grandy's restaurant. The parts business changed it's name to Gateway Auto Parts and moved 2 blocks west, but kept their name in the phone book, because so many customers only knew them as Circle Auto Parts. Now that business is an O'Reilly's Auto Parts.

I also remember that there were two circles, the smaller one (original Weatherford Traffic Circle) was located where the intersection of 377 (183) and the old highway 80 West intersection is located as described above.

This has got to be the oddest traffic circle ever. It makes no sense, that there is a yield sign inside the circle for incoming traffic. Never seen this before in my life. It's like some weird afterthought.

The Weatherford Circle was gone before the interstate highways were built, if I remember correctly. The west freeway now i30, ended at 183 and traffic either took spur 341 to what is now Lockheed or went south to the Weatherford Circle to go to weatherford.
The reason that there is a yield sign in the north side of the Benbrook Circle was to allow the traffic headed south from what is now Lockheed.

Regarding the yield sign within the circle, if this didn’t exist then traffic entering from 183 Southbound would likely back up into the intersection at Camp Bowie during rush hours.
