Established in IX century by king Ananda Malla, Bahktipur is one of Nepal's three ancient capitals, along with Kathmandu and Patan. The walled city is central to the Himalayan nation's Hindu and Nuwari heritage, and is one of seven UNESCO world heritage sites throughout the Kathmandu valley.
