After working as a boilermaker for several years, Billy Connolly quit to pursue a career as a folk singer. His first solo album, “Billy Connolly Live!”, was released in 1972 and featured a combination of comedic songs and short monologues. His follow-up record, “Solo Concert”, launched him to stardom and he was selling out theatres by the end of 1974 while developing a reputation as an edgy and profane comic prone to controversial jokes.
