Started as psychopathic department for BSH. 8 years after opening, it separated from BSH. Teaching hospital. Focused on treatment and not custodial care of patients. Has successfully evolved over the many decades, still remains an asset to Boston's healthcare system which is why they temporarily transferred staff to other locations until a new facility was built.

In 2010 The building was abated and demolished. Nothing remains.
