This bridge is part of a series of hiking trails at the Trapps Mountain Hamlet Historic District; the area on the Shawangunk Range had been listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. Only 6 buildings built by the settlers remain standing and many other structures exist with their foundations only, yet the area was one of the few places in the Eastern U.S. in which inhabitants left traces of subsistence agriculture remaining, a practice in which people focus on growing enough crops to feed themselves and their families.
