Bruce Rauner is an American businessman, philanthropist and politician who served as the 42nd governor of Illinois from 2015 to 2019. Prior to his election, he was the chairman of R8 Capital Partners and chairman of the private equity firm GTCR, based in Chicago. In 2018, after narrowly surviving a challenge in the Republican primary from State Representative Jeanne Ives, Rauner lost the general election to Democratic challenger J. B. Pritzker in a landslide.

On 4 MAR 2021, it was revealed that Rauner donated $250,000 to Florida governor Ron DeSantis after the exclusive country club in which he lives, The Ocean Reef Club, received an abnormally number of COVID vaccines. Of The Ocean Reef Club's approximate 1,600 residents, by February 2021, over 1,200 had been vaccinated. This 75% vaccination rate far exceeds the statewide vaccination rate of 8.5%.
