Capernaum Synagogue (StreetView)
Located on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee, Capernaum was a fishing village in the time of the Hasmoneans with a had a population of about 1,500. Archaeological excavations have revealed two ancient synagogues built one over the other. Capernaum is frequently mentioned in the Gospels and was Jesus' "headquarters" during his minisrty in Galile, and is referred to as Jesus' "own city".
