He began his career in the film industry in the early 1980's, as a producer of small, independent films, making occasional cameos in his productions. Since 1994, he has been an agent at The William Morris Agency, representing independent films and independent film producers. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential people in the U.S. independent film industry.
