Castello Aragonese di Ortona

Castello Aragonese di Ortona

Ortona, Italy (IT)
The Aragonese Castle of Ortona, was built in 1452 by King Alfonso of Aragona over the remains of an ancient fortress. Its solid walls and four side towers stood firm over the centuries, beating back the Venetian marauders before becoming a prison and then a national monument. It looms still on the Ortona cliff that plunges steeply down into the Adriatic sea. It is a symbol of force, majesty and enduring presence through time
