On Sunday 7th August 2022 Dean K2JB a radio amateur from Asheville, NC reached the summit of Cataloochee Balsam and activated this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.

He made 55 contacts in total working on the 40, 30, 20 and 17 metre HF amateur radio bands.
