The idea of a Chevrolet HHR SS was first proposed in October 2006, in whch Cheryl Catton, the director of marketing/retail integration for the company, confirmed that a high-performance version of the retro-styled HHR would be produced. The annual Woodward Dream Cruise on August 16, 2007 saw the introduction of this particular HHR for the 2008 model year, and came with a 260 hp turbocharged I4 engine. The SEMA show of the same year also featured the HHR SS Panel Concept, in which this version of the SS was brought into production for 2009. However, in late 2010, Chevrolet announced that all HHRs would be discontinued after the 2011 model year, in which standard fleet models were the last to go.
