Chott el Hodna

Chott el Hodna

Algeria (DZ)
One of Algeria's largest shallow saline lakes. Chott el Hodna is on the Ramsar list of Wetlands of International Importance; it is home to many species of flora and fauna. The lake size is generally approximately 50 miles (80 km) long by 10 miles (16 km) wide but the size varies constantly due to season rainfall and the rapid evaporation in the desert environment. Roman ruins and rock paintings in the area are evidence of pre-modern times settlement but today the area remains largely untouched by man!!
