On 8 AUG 2018, Collins was arrested by the FBI for insider trading and lying to the FBI. While serving in congress, Collins owned 4 million shares of Australian biopharmaceuticals company Innate Immunotherapeutics. During the 2018 July 4th celebration at the White House, Collins received word that Innate Immunotherapeutics latest clinical trial of a drug failed. It is alleged that Collins then called his son who tipped off other friends and family, resulting in the sale of their shares, saving the Collins family over $570,000 in losses. Soon after, the shares dropped over 90%.
