Church of St. Mary the Virgin

Church of St. Mary the Virgin

Tintern, United Kingdom (GB)
A legend about a party of young men who dug up some skeletons from the old abbey orchards. Later in the evening, their frolics and food came to an abrupt halt when ghostly, cowled monks rose from nearby graves and with much swirling mists they advanced in menacing file towards the young adventurers, who soon fled, leaving the remains of their food and drink lying around the grass where it was whisked into the air and thrown about by whirling gusts.

From a safe distance the trembling young men watched the sombre ghostly figures leave the abbey grounds and drift silently along the rough track towards the church of St Mary the Virgin, further up the valley slope, where they disappeared from view.
