Clairefontaine or Le Centre Technique National Fernand Sastre opened in 1988 and is one of 12 National football centers that specializes in training French football players. The best players from the Île-de-France region are selected to train here. Some notable players to have trained here are: Nicolas Anelka, Louis Saha, William Gallas, Hatem Ben Arfa, Abou Diaby, Sébastien Bassong, Mehdi Benatia, Blaise Matuidi, Olivier Giroud, Thierry Henry and recently Kylian Mbappé.

The academy is also used to house the national teams as a base camp for training.
