Cocaine Plant

The Stepan Company plant is the only legal importer of coca leaves
in the USA. The extracted cocaine is used for pharmaceutical purposes, while the cocaine-free leaves are sold to The Coca Cola Company for flavoring beverages.

The northwest corner of the property, between the railroad and highway, is the Maywood Superfund Site, where thorium and rare earth elements had been extracted before 1956.
