On 16 April 1746, the Jacobite forces of Charles Edward Stuart fought loyalist troops commanded by William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland near Inverness.
The Hanoverian victory at Culloden decisively stopped the Jacobite temptative to overthrow the House of Hanover and restore the House of Stuart to the British throne.

The strenght was about 8000 man with the Duke of Cumberland (300 casualties) and 7000 man with the Jacobite (2000 casualties)
