Mathis served as the Chief Executive Officer of American Manufacturers Mutual Insurance Company. Mr. Mathis served as the President and Chief Operating Officer of Kemper Corporation from May 1990 to September 1992 and Executive Vice President from May 1989 to May 1990. He served as Chief Executive Officer of Kemper Insurance Companies from February 1992 to November 2003. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of Zurich American Corporation since February 1992.
He serves on the board of Trustees of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Museum of Science and Industry. He serves as a Director of Chicago Council on Foreign Relations and Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges. Mr. Mathis holds BA degree in speech from Lake Forest College.
