Doug Hurley is an engineer and former Marine Corps pilot. Karen Nyberg is a mechanical engineer. Hurley is a current, and Nyberg a retired, NASA astronaut. Hurley piloted Space Shuttle mission STS-135 in July 2011, the final flight of the U.S. Space Shuttle program. With her trip as Mission Specialist aboard STS-124 in 2008, Nyberg became the 50th woman in space.
Behnken In August 2018, Hurley was assigned to the first test flight SpX-DM2 of the SpaceX Crew Dragon, along with Bob Behnken, to become the first two American astronauts to be sent into space by a private American company.
