Maximilian I of Mexico (July 6, 1832 – June 19, 1867) was an Austrian archduke who was named emperor of the Second Mexican Empire by his brother, Franz Joseph I. His reign lasted from April 4, 1864, to June 19, 1867. He was executed at Cerro de las Campanas (this location) by firing squad after his trial by Benito Juárez and the Mexican Republic/Second Mexican Empire.
