This was the home field for the short-lived Lake County Fielders minor league baseball team. The team was co-owned by actor Kevin Costner. The team's logo featured a baseball player standing next to a corn field, which is in reference to Costner's film "Field of Dreams".
The team was plagued with problems about their home field during their short existence. Funding problems to build a stadium in 2010 forced the team to play on a temporary field until a permanent stadium could be built the following spring.
In 2011, the city of Zion halted construction plans of a permanent stadium after the team stopped making rent payments. The team claims that payments stopped due to the lack of a permanent facility. Each side firmly placed blame with the other.
Season ticket holders demanded refunds. The team faced money problems on road trips. Several team employees and players quit. Even the radio play-by-play announcer quit during a broadcast.
