From 1945 to 1952 more than 2 million refugees from the GDR passed this border to come to Camp Friedland south of Göttingen.

May 27. 1952 it was closed by the Soviets, only special transports were allowed. 1956 it was closed permanent. 1989 it was opened again but for 6 month as border station after the border between GDR and FRG was removed.
