Former Calcining Works

The former Oliver and Son calcining works was built to manufacture finely milled or ground flint stone powder which was use in the local pottery factories to whiten and strengthen their products.

The works had a two storey workshop alongside the Trent & Mersey canal. The canal was used to transport the untreated flint stone to the works. At right angles to the workshop was a single storey arcaded building and on the eastern edge of the works were a cylindrical kiln and a larger rectangular kiln

The calcining works is today Historic England Grade II listed and has the entry number129728.
