Former hangar from Sky Harbor Airport

Billed as "The Airport of Tomorrow", the Sky Harbor Airport opened in 1929 in the northern Chicago suburbs. It was originally designed to be a country club for wealthy aviation enthusiasts. The stock market crash later that year and the eventual Great Depression caused the elaborate plans to be short lived. The airport existed as a small airfield until closing down in 1973.

This hangar is one of just two structures from the airport that still stands. Another hangar (built in 1941) stands just to the north of this one.

Today, a restaurant operates out of the front of the building, while a heating and air conditioning business uses the back side.
